What is the Thanksgiving Dance Challenge?
Every day, dancers use KPop Mirror to learn real idol choreography from the official dance practice videos. This month, we want to see what you've learned. The KPop Mirror Thanksgiving Dance Challenge is a free contest: you upload a video of you dancing any song that's in the KPop Mirror app, and the KPop Mirror team picks one winner for the $50 prize.
Every entry is checked by our team before it shows up, and approved videos go on a live leaderboard where fans can give them hearts. Hearts are a fun way to cheer each other on, but they don't decide the winner on their own. We do.
How to enter (3 steps)
- Learn a dance. Open KPop Mirror and pick any song. BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, NewJeans, ATEEZ, KATSEYE… every song in the app counts.
- Film yourself. Use the Record button in the app, or just your phone's camera.
- Upload it. Go to the Thanksgiving Challenge page, add a display name (first name or nickname only, please), pick your song, choose your video and send it.
If you're 13 to 17, the form asks for your parent or guardian's name and email, and you'll tick a box saying they said yes. If you're 18 or older, just add your email. We only use these emails to contact the winner. They're never shown on the site.
Tips to make a winning video
The team judges on three things: dance skill, energy and creativity, and how closely you match the choreography. Here's how to nail all three.
- Practice slow first. In the app, tap Slower and learn the chorus at 0.5× or 0.75×. When your feet stop guessing, speed back up to 1×. Matching the real choreography is a big part of the score, so this step matters.
- Repeat the hard part. Set Start and End around the 8-count you keep missing and let it loop until it feels easy.
- Get your whole body in the frame. Head to feet, the whole time. Prop your phone up at waist height a few steps back. If we can't see your footwork, we can't judge it.
- Use good lighting. Face a window or a lamp, not away from it. A bright, even light makes your moves easy to see. Avoid dancing with a bright window behind you.
- Record in the app. The Record feature films you dancing and lets you add a fun stage background. Watch it back, and if you don't love it, do another take.
- Bring the energy. Big moves, sharp stops and a smile. Idols perform to the camera, so you should too. Creativity counts: a cute outfit, a fun location or a Thanksgiving touch can help you stand out.
- Keep it short and clean. The chorus is plenty. Keep your video under 100 MB, and leave out your full name, school or address.
The leaderboard and hearts
Once your video is approved, it shows on the live leaderboard on the challenge page, ranked by hearts. Anyone can give one heart per video from their phone, so share your entry with friends and family. Remember: hearts show the fan favorites, and the KPop Mirror team picks the $50 winner. Voting closes when entries close on November 26.
